Youth Creativity through Songwriting

Celebrate the power of youth creativity with live music, collaborative songwriting, and a warm community atmosphere at Pangaea Youth Space.

Youth Creativity through Songwriting

On August 30th, Pangaea Youth hosted a Songwriting Workshop with musician Nikola Ivanov, inviting young people to explore music as a tool for expression and empowerment. The evening started with simple, fun exercises where everyone could try out lyrics and melodies with no experience needed.Together we created three original songs, sang them as a group, and ended the night with spontaneous karaoke instead of board games. The result? An evening filled with laughter, creativity, and connection.

Main Takeaways:

  • Youth practiced self-expression and teamwork by co-writing and performing three songs.

  • The evening showed how creativity and music can build confidence and community.

Highlights

The evening started with a beginner-friendly songwriting session led by Nikola Ivanov, where participants were guided step by step through the creative process. Everyone was encouraged to share ideas for lyrics, melodies, and themes, regardless of prior musical experience. Over the course of a couple of hours, the group co-created three completely original songs, experimenting with different styles, harmonies, and rhythms.

As the songs took shape, participants practiced collaboration and active listening, giving feedback to each other and adjusting their ideas together. Once the songs were completed, the group performed them collectively, celebrating their creativity and the sense of achievement that comes from creating as a team. The energy and excitement were contagious — what was planned as a casual board game evening quickly transformed into karaoke and dancing, with everyone taking turns on the microphone, cheering each other on, and enjoying the playful, supportive atmosphere.

Why It Matters

This evening was not just about music. It was about youth empowerment — giving space for young people to try something new, share their voice, and build confidence. It also showed the spirit of Erasmus+: inclusion, participation, and creativity.

“When we create together, we also grow together.”

Workshops like this remind us how important youth spaces are: places where everyone feels welcome, free to express themselves, and part of a strong community.Nights like this show how youth spaces can turn simple activities into memorable experiences that strengthen the local community.

One participant summed it up perfectly: ‘I never thought I could write a song, but now I can’t wait to do it again.’ That sense of discovery and joy is what youth work is all about
